Rapid Orthodontics

Corticotomies are small cuts that are made at the level of the gum and cortical bone that help the teeth to move faster during orthodontic treatment. They can be performed with both conventional orthodontics or Invisalign. It is a painless and minimally invasive procedure.

With age and the passing of years, bone remodeling, which is the speed with which bone cells act to make tooth movement take place, decreases.

In these cases, orthodontic treatment does not progress at the rate we expect.

Corticotomy produces a trauma to the cortical bone and the gingiva that induces RAP (Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon), which is a temporary phenomenon of regional acceleration of bone remodeling (demineralization / remineralization of bone).

They would also be indicated when we need to perform large dento-alveolar movements and the thickness or type of the patient’s gingiva does not allow it. With corticotomies we avoid problems such as recessions or dental dehiscences that can appear when there is crowding or compression in patients with a very fine biotype.

In summary, orthodontics with the help of corticotomies is a good option when we seek greater speed or when we need to make large movements without side effects on the patient’s periodontium.
